This is classic

So Chevrolet thought it would be a good idea to have a contest where the general public got to make advertisements for the new Chevy Tahoe.

Yeah, it's not hard to figure out where this would lead. (The links to the ads are scattered around through people's posts, a little tricky to find but oh so worth it)

It's Tuesday. So I guess I should write.

Let's keep up the pattern and write, shall we?

Oh, but what to write... hmm. Not sure.

Well, let's see. Ball season is rapidly gearing up... coaching meeting is this Thursday. Should get my roster and everything else and be ready to go. Start looking for some gym time and hope the weather turns favourable soon so we gan get out on the diamond. I am absolutely itching to get going this year. I'm absolutely totally completely utterly geeked about this year. Watch it turn out to be a big disaster or something. Ha!

Had my first meeting on Sunday with South Diamond Softball and was elected Vice President. Hoo-ha. Now I sit on a board that needs to spend $80k in 8 months on fostering the development of softball in Calgary. This is gonna be fun...

Um... well, yeah. I'm boring.

We're considering (if we can somehow find some extra money lying around, which is unlikely) that our second vehicle will be a Honda Fit. They look like great fun.

That is all. See? Told you I'm boring.

A pattern emerges.

Interesting. I seem to be posting every Tuesday all of a sudden.

Some quick randoms

Ok, I've got a few minutes to kill here before the day is over and I go take over for Steph. So here's some randoms.

- Noel is now very upset, as he just received his first immunization shots. He's very angry.

- It was great to see the Americans crash and burn so miserably in the WBC. It helps heal the gaping "we sucked it hardcore in the Men's hockey at the Olympics" wound

- I was listning to, as usual, the Fan 960 the other day, and there was an interview with some American guy (I think it might have been an interview on the Jim Rome Show) where the topic was whether Cuba should have been "allowed" to play in the WBC. The argument that was being made was that because they are not a "free country" they should not be allowed to play in the tournament.

Ah yes. Nothing like combining a worldwide sporting event with politics. The American guy was going on about how the people aren't free, a message should be sent, communism is evil, blah blah blah.

If I'd had the time, I would have called in and said "You know that China played in the tournament, too, right? And nobody had a problem with that one..."

Mmmm. Political tunnel-vision. Delicious.

Ok. That's all.

My Out of Style is Coming Back

Well, whoever gave this cold to me, Stephanie, and Noel should be shot. Heh. I originally typoed shot as "short". Whoever gave us this cold should be short. Not much of a punishment, really, if they already ARE short.

So, they should be short, or shot. Whichever.

Man these must be some good drugs.

So the softball season hasn't even started and already the politics have begun. All winter it was "You should coach here" or "You should do this for our girls" blah blah blah. Now it's "You should be on the board for this new softball entity that I'm starting. If you will be then you'll get all the good equipment. Hey hey. Nudge nudge. Wink."

Say no more. No, really. Say no more. If only you could be involved with minor sports and keep the politics out. Unfortunately, there's no way to coach at a high level (and yes, there are high levels for any age of player), be successful, get to do things your way, and stay out of the politics.

And so, that is all. My head is too fuzzy for me to write for much longer.

In closing, I leave you with a Headstones lyric.

You claim you're hitting home runs,
well, triples at least
but you can't even get
a minor league single.

I love the WBC!!!

So I'm watching the World Baseball Classic right now with my MLB.tv subscription and I've got to say this is one of the most exciting baseball games I've ever seen in my life.

The defensive plays have been incredible, the crowd is even wilder than the crowd was for the games in the Tokyo Dome, there's been everything. Great offense, home runs, arguments with umpires, brushback pitches, this game's had it all.

WOW! This is helluva fun.

The good die young...

Random blah blah

Well I think I'll take a moment this morning to sit back with my coffee, relax, and write some random blahs in this blog.

Noel continues to be either angelic or demonic. The night before last, he was nice and quiet and slept for a full 3 hour stretch twice! This made Stephanie and I quite happy.

Last night, he kept Steph up for hours either being wide awake and noisy or screaming, which he started at about 5am and continued more or less non stop until I had to get up. Hopefully, he's quieted down now so Steph can get some rest.

Overall though it's still a wonderful experience. He's reacting to things now, so you can make him laugh if you time it right, he will follow brightly coloured objects, and such. The ability to interact with him goes a long way towards helping me feel closer to him. Before, it didn't really matter what I did - he didn't really react at all (well, in a noticeable way).

PLAY BALL!!!

Spring training started this week (yee haw!). My beloved Giants got off to a good Bonds-less start, whipping the Brewers (although it was a split-squad) 10-5. Performance bodes well for the team's success when they'll have to play without Bonds, which will be at least 40 games this year because of his gimpy knees.

I've subscribed to MLB.TV so I can watch games over the internet. Hopefully I'll have time to watch lots of Giants games and the $15 US per month will be worth it. The quality of the "broadcasts" is quite good. I watched a bit of the Taipei vs. South Korea game from the World Baseball Classic this morning.

Watching that game was very unusual - it really helped define the differences between the crowds that watches baseball in North America vs. other countries. Up here, baseball crowds tend to be quite laid back and "quiet". It's almost more of a social thing.

The crowd for the Taipei vs. SK was crazy! You could barely hear the play by play guy and the colour commentator over the whoops and hollerings and whistles and (fireworks?!?) and songs and chants that echoed throughout the Tokyo Dome.

So now I must add "Tokyo Dome" to my list of "Places at which to watch a baseball game".

I'm now going to pull an Al and make some predictions for the baseball season this year.

National League
---------------

NL West: SF Giants - as long as Barry can play 100+ games, the Giants win the division, which is still the weakest in baseball.

NL Central: STL Cardinals - no way they don't win this division again, by a country mile.

NL East: PHL Phillies - Philly will finally unseat the Braves from atop of this division.

Wildcard: HOU Astros - Strong pitching staff and these guys made the world series last year, remember. The team hasn't changed much and they'll continue to have success.

American League
---------------

AL East: TOR Blue Jays - The Jays far and away are the most improved team in the entire Major League after spending like mad. It's true they overspent on the free agents they signed - but they had to overpay to convince the top tier players (BJ Ryan, etc.) to actually come and play in Toronto. The NL East isn't as strong as it used to be - or people still think it is - and Toronto will win this division easily. This is my "controversial" pick.

AL Central: CHI White Sox - Team hasn't changed too much since winning the World Series, and they easily have the best Manager in the game right now.

AL West: LAA Angels - The Angels continue to be a strong team and should win this division again.

AL Wildcard: NY Yankees - The Yankees will slug their way to a wildcard birth just slightly ahead of Oakland. They will struggle mightily because of their very weak pitching staff (especially their middle & long relief).

Well, that's it for now ...
